Nurmagomedov is set to defend his UFC lightweight title against interim champion Gaethje.

UFC 254 shout take place on October 24. Location for the event is yet to be announced.
Gaethje produced his best performance when he won an interim lightweight title bout against Tony Ferguson at a behind-closed doors in May. He isn’t concerned about whether his wrestling defense will hold up against the relentless attacks from Khabib. Gaethje is more focused on getting the champion in his sights and turning their fight into total war. He also knows that for 25 minutes, he has to fight the “perfect” fight. Gaethje speculated that there are some aspects on the psychological side that could be exploited on Nurmagomedov side. But underrated part of his skills is his wrestling, which he almost never uses.

Nurmagomedov has clean sheet record of 28 wins, where has barely lost a round, let alone a fight. He has displayed a mastery of multiple fighting tehniques like grappling, takedowns and ground-and-pound. It was also rumoured to be set on retiring following the tragic death of his father fer months ago.

No fighter has ever been able to put Khabib down for good. While one of Gaethje's losses came against someone Nurmagomedov beat in Poirier. Gaethje will have a slight advantage when they meet, since Khabib not having fought for almost a year(last September).

Nurmagomedov is the best wrestler in the UFC, averaging more than 5 takedowns per 15 minutes. He has landed multiple takedowns in each of his last nine bouts. On the canvas Khabib rains down relentless ground and pound that makes his opponents wilt under his pressure. He could be more vulnerable in striking exchanges, but it’s an area he seems to improve in each time he fights.
